Rock The Casbah is unusual for The band as it's one of the few songs not written by Joe Strummer or Mick Jones. Topper Headon, their drummer at that time is credited for writing it, though he'd left the band by the time it had become a hit due to addiction problems.
The song's success almost made Strummer leave the band, he felt that singing rebellious songs while the group were so successful was turning them in to a joke.
