Blue Monday is the best selling 12 inch of all time in the UK. The song title was 'inspired' by a line for Kurt Vonnegut's 'Breakfast Of Champions' which drummer, Stephen Morris was reading at the time.
Ironically it's success as a single pretty much saved The Hacienda from bankruptcy, despite there being an unofficial ban of it being played in the club itself.
