Fela Kuti was born on 15 October 1938 in Nigeria. His mother was a well known leader of the counrty's feminist movement and his father was a preacher. They hoped Fela would go on to be a doctor, but their son had other ideas and changed his university course within days of arriving in London forming Koola Lobitos, a highlife influenced jazz band.
After his start in the UK, he developed his sound playing in his native Nigeria but it wasn't until a US tour in 1969 that things really fell in to place for him. He realised, after reading Malcolm X' s biography that he wanted to play African music and his infamous sound was born.
Printed on 250 gsm matt paper the poster is available in four sizes and three framed colour options, black, white and wood.
