Prince's bass player Brown Mark was also in a band called Mazarati signed to Paisley Park. They asked Prince for a song for their debut album, taking a break from recording 'Parade' he gave them a minute-long acoustic demo.
The band re-worked the song, giving it it's irresistible funk groove. When he heard it, Prince replaced their lead vocal, added the guitar break in the chorus and then included 'Kiss' as a last-minute addition to Parade.
Mazarati, as you can imagine, were THRILLED.
